Actually, the below is not correct. The reason you think you're
missing text when you navigate is because you're not navigating the
way you are intended to. When moving through a page use VO-Left or
Right arrows to move through everything on the page. VO presents the
page in something closer to a visual layout. Moving with VO Keys-Up
or Down arrows will only move you up or down in the column of the
page you are currently sitting in. I much prefer this way of doing
things over Windows screen readers, as it allows you to move more
quickly to things you want to find on familiar web sites, or to
ignore whole sections of sites that you know you don't care about. HTH.

Interestingly though, the item and link choosers work fine.
I'm no VoiceOver expert but it sounds like VoiceOver is grouping bits
of content e.g. lists. You need to press shift control option down to
enter such groups.
