A tool that can really help do an erase at least on pc's and maybe mac's if they'll boot Linux is at http://dban.sf.net/ and it takes time to do its work but does several passes over a hard drive and erases it thoroughly. Since you put it on a CDROM that can't have anymore writing, download the iso image for that no malware can interfere with its work or compromise it. I had to use that on a Linux box before my connection got stealthed by a good router. When the disk gets inserted into a pc it spins for about 10 seconds then you type autonuke and hit enter. A hundred gig disk will take overnight to erase putting it back to the condition it was in before you installed anything onto it. A 300 gig disk will need 24 hours to erase completely.

Hello Will,

There's probably nothing wrong with the Install DVD, it's just that your system is on OS X 10.4.10 and the Install disc is bare OS X 10.4. You should save all your data to an external hard drive and do an Erase and Install. Then do Software Update and get the combo update to 10.4.10.

 hi all

are there 2 separate version of the tiger dvd?
i brought my DVD from PC world here today here in the UK of mac OSX tiger 10.4 i thought it was a universal disk, only to discover when i booted the cd up with c held down when i start the mac, and i let it go after it spins, voice over said automatically finder, has new window. and it brought up the contents of the cd itself, not the installation. Upon clicking the isntall mac OS X icon it said it can't install on my machine

why are chains like PC world here int eh UK selling software if they don't know about it. i said to them guys i have a macbook, if they don't know it is intel a macbook then why sell it. ok, PC world means, ahem, PC's i guess ok fair enough but i'm sure i can sort this out. So, does mac OS tiger now come on a universal DVD disk i wonder now, since ont he apple.com store sites for UK and ireland for example it doesn't say which version you are getting just mac OS X tiger I hope i can swap the disk even though i opened it at another PC world store if i explain politely that i didn't know if indeed it is the case, that 2 separate version one for power PC one for Intel exist for the same disk hopefuly i can do a straight swap then re-install my system only putting ont he application parts i use not all the I life softwar ethat i hardly use
regards to all, will
