James. When you use the finder to open songs, you are actually
copying them into the iTunes library. It is creating duplicates. I
was just like you, always opening stuff from finder or windows
explorer. However, since I have literally switched over to the mac, I
have learned the way of the iTunes library and am verry comfortable
now. I recommend taking some time to familliarize yourself with the
library, how it works, and how you can easily play songs, and in the
right order. I've only been using iTunes for a few days now, and have
gotten used to it. Hope this helps.

Hi again Dane,
I understand what you meant about the library but I am wondering
something. I am so used, int windows this is, to navigating to a
folder and just opening the music or play that's in it. If I use
the Itunes library, does it literally copy all the files into the
folder for itunes or will it just collect all the tags? I only ask
because I seem to have this idea that it might make duplicate files
and i'll end up with two sets of music folders.
Hope this makes sense

Hi again!
Well firstly, I'm far from an expert on Itunes but allot of
factors come into play here, you're probably better "Adding songs
to library" with command-O from Itunes.
Next, how are the ID3 tags set in your tracks?

Hi folks,
How can I persuade Itunes to open files in the same order I select
them. For instance, when selecting a folder of files using the
finder, it sorts the list alphabetically, even though the files
are numbered 01 - 11 etc. Is there a reason for this?
Winamp allowed you to turn this behaviour off and only sort by the
pathname.
