I'll hsare it with all of you as its simple enough, you can do it in
2 different ways.
Go to the Energy Saving tab under System Preferences and select the
preset there called "Better Battery Life" for when the macbook is
running on battery, you can select which power source you wish to
change.
Alternatively (and this is more likely I should think) you may wish
to create a "Custom" preset for your power management where you
select all the settings your self, they are saved under the "Custom"
preset. For example, you can specify how long before the computer
goes to sleep in minutes of activity, the lenght of inactivity before
the display sleeps, whether the hard drive will go to sleep or not,
you'll find these settings under the "Sleep" tab in Energy saver
here, you can also create a schedule so that your computer will go to
sleep or shutdown at a certain time whilst booting or waking at
another time.
In the "Options" tab you'll find various settings which allow the
computer to wake up if various events occur, say for network
administration for example. Here you will find the "CPU Performance"
choices, you can select from highest, auto or low I think the last
setting is, set this to low if you wish to save power though bare in
mind that with some tasks the computer may struggle.

Hi Dane,
I don't use my mac to watch DVDs, and if i do it is very rare, I am
usually using it for study purposes, so word processing and the like.
Could you please give me instructions on reducing CPU performance,
you can e mail me off list if you like, or we could Skype, a you have
my ucontact info on your list i think.
Thanks
James

If you're game, you can reduce the CPU performance, this also saves
quite allot of power but I only suggest you do this if you're
running minimum applications such as say Word Processing, Email etc
and not things like playing DVD's.

Just use the function key on the botttom left corner and the f1 to
lower the screen brightness to zero. That turns it off for sure
and gives me almost 5 hours of life depending on use of blue tooth,
airport and CD's.

Hi folks,
If we switch on the screen curtain when we are runningÎ on
battery, does it switch the screen off and hence save more power.
Thanks
James
