What annoys me about Itunes is that unless you have the ID# tags set
correctly then things don't import into your library as they should.
Ok, that's probably not Itunes fault but you would think that Itunes
could deduce ID# tags from the file names of tracks, for example most
tracks have the fromat of artist - title in the file name, this
should (one would think) be enough information for Itunes to assume
an artist at least from the filename and make the import and addition
to the library accordingly, ah no by the looks of things <smile>.
On the other hand though, if you're prepared to sit there and use the
Itunes Editor to modify all feelds as required when importing then I
have to admit that you'll end up with a very well structured and very
well organised library, in other words Itunes is damn great! for
someone starting out from nothing and getting ready to add every song
from CD or wherever to a library but a pain in the bum for those who
are importing long-held collections.

Same here, Itunes irritates me. I come from the old Winamp camp.

Yep sure it can, turn off automatically add songs to library, I
think its under the Advanced options in preferences.
That's one annoying thing about Itunes I in my opinion I reckon and
that's why I'm using VLC more and more these days, it just plays
what I direct it to play and that's that, no library and I can
create and use playlists, just like Winamp.

Hey guys,
Alright, a little confusion with playing music. I have most of my
music on
an external harddrive. What if I wanna just load a bunch of tracks
from a
folder and play them. Here's the thing. I don't want to load them
in to
the library.
Can this be done with itunes, without loading them in to the
library every
time?
Let me give you an example. What I use to do with winamp and
windows. I'd
open it up, highlight a tonof files, and just play them.
I figure, since I already have these files on my external
harddrive, why
reload them in to the library if that makes any sense?
Any advice you guys have would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks,
Jed
