Well we've given you links to various applications such as Nisus Writer, I'm not sure what the prices are at the moment but I do recall another list member telling us about a special that was being run on the Pro version right now.

What program are you suggesting. I will try it all out. I would like the name and link as well as the price. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the product but to be fair it seems rahter inappropriate for someone who just wants to sit down and type a document of high quality and that's it. Fair enough, if you want to dabble in the world of type setting and so forth then by all means, proceed further.

Hi Dane,

I agree with you, i too like nisus Writer, but I have found that for the moment at least, taht Latex gives me much more control over my who document. But i do recommend Nisus Writer Express/Pro

Well this was a point I was going to write about actually, do you really have to learn a word processing package to use it? I think not and that's where Nisus Writer and such come into their own, just open a document and start typing, worry about learning the rest of it as you go along, no special commands needed and not much to learn, if I can use Nisus etc then I'm damn sure that anyone else can.

Im sure you will, and if i can help let me know

I listened to about 30 minutes of the podcast and for the most part I understood the way the program operates. It will get the document formatted and correct on all levels, but he through me off when he started doing math problems. I am OK in math but when you bundle that with this program it made for a difficult listen. I will try it out an see how it goes, but that will prove interesting to learn. I already have to learn the Mac and this thing is something new to master in the world of word processing. I just hope that I can make it.

Hi James, VaShaun, and others,

Justin Harford did a demo of LaTex using VoiceOver and TeXShop
on Blind Cool Tech if you are interested in getting an impression
of how TeX documents and the TeXShop program for the Mac work.

The mp3 file is at:

http://mediacloud.libsyn.com/bct/bct1078IntroductionToLaTeX.mp3

or, you can go to the Blind Cool Tech Podcast page at

http://www.blindcooltech.com/

and look for "Introduction to LaTeX" 6/26/07

Cheers,

Esther

That's right the learning curve is steep with TeX, the rewards are
well worth it however.

It is free, but please get in touch if you've not used it before, it
is not simply a case of typing as with a word processor

I think I will be getting Latex . Is it totally accessible and how
much does it cost?

There is also Latex (pronouned Laytech), which is a type-setin
tool. It is extremely powerful and versitle, but does require
time to learn. Although, the benefits are rewarding, especially for Blind users in my personal opinion, as I use it exclusively for my University assignments. I don't want to clutter the list
with discussions about Latex, so please feel free to E Mail me
off list, if you'd like to know more.
