I can only speak for my state. In Alaska, the marketshare for the Mac
has cut into the Windows market by some 15%, and is increasing.
Several high school students who are blind or visually-impaired have
requested that they receive training on the Mac, and our counselors
throught the state are listening. I don't know if the Alaska Center
for the Blind will offer that training, come the next semester, for if
they do, they'll have to hire someone from the Lower 48, or hire Bill
Craig, from Sitka, who is another Mac user, besides myself. And the
only way that I can see the center offering the training, is for the
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (Blind Services) to appropriate
money to the center for that training, which I don't see happening any
time soon. I am, however, encouraged that more and more requests are
being received by DVR in Alaska. At the Alaska Independent Blind
convention, I will be demonstrating VoiceOver and have offered to give
attendees the opportunity to experience it firsthand, and like we do at
the store, I will set up a machine where students can practice some
techniques which I will show them, to give them a "test drive" of the
Mac. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.
