But I set up a new MacBook recently and for some reason this wasn't on already. <pasted from another recent post to the list> check Systems Preferences to look at the firewall settings. For some reason firewall wasn't turned on by default. Look under Sharing in the Internet & Network category and go to the Firewall tab. I found a comment in an online forum that this wasn't set on by default, and when I checked, sure enough, it wasn't. This was an August MacBook purchase from Apple.
