A fast way to have an ap launch iat start up is to simpley open he
ap. Go to dock, and find it, arrow without VO keys to the right.
There is a list of options there. Simply use VO keys space bar on
"start up automatically." Of course this other option works better
if you have acounts in your machine that you run that you wouldn't
want Skype to atomatically start. But just another way to skin the cat.

If you go to System Preferences and then accounts, for a particular
account you'll find a couple tabs. One of those tabs is Login Items
and in that tab is a table which lists all the things that will be
launched when you log in with that account. Below the list is a
pair of buttons to add and remove items from the list. If you click
the "Add Login Items" button you'll get a standard file selector
and can choose whatever apps or documents you want loaded. If you
choose a document it will be opened by the default application for
that document type.

is there anyway to have Skype start when my system is booted up?
When you launch Skype for the first time, go to Skype Preferences
(Command-Comma), Select General and you will find the checkbox
for Launching Skype on OS X start up.
