why doesn't this tiger growl when I wake it up?

I'm about to ask what to some of you may sound a strange question and to 
others is going to sound funny.  It was asked of me by my sighted work 
mate who is not a mac user at least not yet.  Why does an operating system 
with the name this one has not wake up with a growl or roar?  More to the 
point is anything available to fix that problem?
