I agree here. I bought my ipod about a month and a half ago, and I
absolutely love it. I've never put rockbox on it because I have a lot
of music from the itunes store as well as audible books, and just
because like Mike, I feel it's accessible if you know your music
collection. Before this, I had a bookcourier, and after getting the
ipod and figuring it out I sold my bookcourier. There obviously is a
bit of a learning curve, but I personally feel like it's worth it.
But if he still wants speech, then rockbox is an alternative.

so, i've used a nano and a video ipod. It depends on the model of
the ipod, for example the 2nd generation ipod nano's and later dont
have speach support, (though i've found if you know your music you
dont need speach), and some agree with me, and some dont...
The video ipods and other mp3 players can be supported with open
source software called rockbox,

i think. I could be wrong though. It is doable, though as previously
stated if you know your music you dont need speach on the ipod.
Remember as well, if you use rockbox you can't sink your music with
itunes. Well, you can, but you can't access that music with rockbox.
Meanning music bought from the itunes store, napster, or audable
wont be able to be accessed with rockbox.
It became a grait pain to have to re boot the ipod just to listen to
an audable book, so honestly i think it not worth it. But that's how
i feel, and if your friend wants speach, he/she/you should check out
rockbox

hth a bit!

Hi All
I have a client who has recently lost is vision and has an iPod
that he
would like to continue to use. I have had very little experience
with
iPods, and do not know what model he has, however he would like to
know
if there is any speech support available for them, similar to talking
software for phones, that can assist him.
Thank you in advance
