Well that would partially explain the discrepancy. Office 2004 was
written for panther and Microsoft hoped it would work with tiger. I'll be
buying leopard but it'll be sometime in 2008 since finances on this end
need straightening out first.

Apparently Microsoft and several other vendors were somehow grandfathered
in given the inaccessibility of Microsoft Office.
