Well, I used it kind of accidentally the first night when I accepted the software update that was already available, Software update just seemed to be sitting there and when I used the application chooser there was a dialog that asked which firewire drive I wanted to use for backups. I chose the one where I already had my superduper backup clone but there was still lots of room. The backup was done and it didn't appear to harm my clone of Tiger; I haven't actually rebooted into it yet but it looks ok.

A warning to those with ppc machines--at least mac minis and maybe others: Time Machine sent my Finder and sometimes other apps into a busy and not very useable state for a few hours. I'm assuming that the initial backup would be the worst; just in case, run time machine for the first time when you don't have anything urgent that needs to be done with that computer.
