Why are you trying to set up the googletalk software? I'll say it
again. Go to Ichat preferences and create a Jabber account using
your gmail address and password to sign in. You also need to use the
server talk.google.com

OK, got it setup but I don't have any buddies. Now how do I get the
Google Talks software to enable audio/video and what do I do with
it once I get it? Does it download and export to I Chat?

Jabber is just a protocol that is a standard accross platforms.
Ichat supports the protocol, but it also supports AIM, so you only
have to use 1 chat client for Jabber and AIM. If you already have
a gmail account, then you can already Jabber by loging into Jabber
using your gmail address and password and the google talk server.
Just create a Jabber account in Ichat. If you already have an AIM
account, go into the Ichat preferences and create an AIM account
using your screen name and password. If you don't have an
existing AIM account then it is easy enough to create one, but
like you say, you would need help to get around that picture thing.

I don't know what Jabber is or how to use it and AIM has that
security feature where you have to type what you see. I never
used I Chat, before I just need to play around with it. Is Jabber
in I Chat and do I need to download Google Talks?

Why don't you just create an AIM account and sign into that

The thing you won't be able to do if you do things this way is
have an audio or video chat with your jabber contacts because
your aren't using the googletalk software. If you are talking
to an AIM contact, however, you can have a vedio conversation.
At least I can on my Imac.

You both need to be on the same messaging service, i.e. AIM or
GoogleTalk. IChat serves as just the conduet.

With using I Chat do I need to use the same chat provider as
the person I want to chat with? For example if one person is
using AIM and I use GMail can we still talk because we both
are on I Chat or do I have to use AIM with him?
