Sheryl here is what is happening in both situations. When I go to my
mounted drives and try to get info for my HD it makes a weird noise
and will not speak it locks up and often forces me to restart. I can't
even force quit the Finder? On my second one, if I open a e-mail
message using enter and tab around it makes the weird noise again. I
open the message and press tab about 3 or 4 times and it locks up. I
don't know if VO is crashing or the application, but if I close the
message and return back to my inbox all is well again. Also I have VO
set to say hello when I power up the system, I hear this in Mail after
I close the message window. I don't know how to record VO but the
noise sounds like a sonar or something. Note: the first problem only
happens on the HD not on any other locations and I tab around Mail
slowly and it will surely lock up. I used to be able to get to the
header info by tabbing and it doesn't work anymore. Hope you can help!

first of all, do you mean: (1) it reboots; (2) it does something
that tells you the whole system has crashed--if so, what?; (3) it
quits talking to you and you don't know what has happened. Sometimes
reinstalls are indeed necessary and sometimes calling Apple Care is
the best course of action, but sometimes looking into the details of
what is happening can save you both of those actions.
