what can i do now

hi all

ok i thought i was set as the admin of my computer. it turns out i am  
not which is pathetic as i was when i upgraded from tiger again  
something else that screwed up during my installation. i have a  
password which i always use but i am locked out of anything now to add  
things to my mac, as my only user isn't an admin i can't unlock the  
accounts to make me an admin what can i do please, if anything
i know my username on here is the only one available, but the username  
and password are not matching, obviously as i am not an administrator
