Hello!
Here is an interesting problem I just ran into while trying to
"Replace All" occurences of a text string with another in Text Edit
(under Tiger):
1. I brought up the "Find/Replace" dialog in Text Edit by pressing
Command-F.
2. I filled in the "Find" and "Replace" fieldswith the desired
characters.
3. I moved to the "Replace All" button with VO-Right Arrow key.
4. I clicked the button withVO-Space Bar.
Nothing happened.
After doing some research, I found this in the Text EDit help under
"Finding and Replacing Text:"
...
"To select (but not replace) all occurrences in a block of selected
text, hold down ***both the Control key and the Option key*** and
click In Selection."
...
I went back checked what was actually under the mouse when I thought
I was on the "Replace All" button (which, by the way, is what VO
announced)... But when asking VO what was under the mouse (or in the
VO cursor or had keyboard focus) all reported "in selection."
My work-around/solution:
1-3. As above.
4. "Enable ControlOption Lock" with VO-; (semicolon).
5. Press the Space Bar.
6. "Disable Control Option Lock" with VO-; (semicolon).
I am still workingh under Tiger, so I do not know if this is still an
issue under Leopard.
BTW: This came up while I was converting a Tabbed Delimited file into
a different format so I could import it into the latest version of
Tables... I changed all the Tabs into daggers (Option-T) and then
opened the file in Tables... It worked beautifully! Give Tables a try
and give him your feedback!!
Hope this helps someone...
Lou.
