I don't think the Migration Assistant fine tunes your choices enough to only copy your mail folders. Sometimes copying an actual application straight from your old installation would probably fail because there have been changes. It seems to me, though, that in a lot of cases you could copy data folders without a problem. When I couldn't compile the version of screen needed for brltty on leopard, I copied the compiled binary from my Tiger install; this did work but there was no guarantee. Of course that wasn't a Macosx component per se. But if there haven't been changes in the structure of mail folders between Tiger and Leopard, I would think you could do that. If it fails, even if it messes up your install, the worst thing that could happen would be that you'd have to reinstall and use the migration assistant and let it copy all your user info. If you don't mind it copying all your user info and settings, then just go ahead and use Migration Assistant in the first place. -- Cheryl "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
