Hi Mitchell. Thanks for this. This sounds like it's exactly what I'm
looking for.

Hi Darcy,
There is a text based Jabber client which I use under FreeBSD, which
may suit your requirements.
It is written in Python, so it should run fine on on the Mac as long
as you have the Xcode tools installed, which gives you access to the
Python interpreter.
The app is called Imcom and the official website was http://imcom.floobin.cx/
which no longer appears to exist.
I have put the source archive up on http://www.bur.st/~mjs/imcom-1.34.tar.gz
if you want to download it.
The client itself works much like an IRC client if you had ever used
one previously.

Yeah, I assumed as much where Psi was concerned. Mainly what I was
wondering is if there are any psi alternatives on the mac. Even
ones that run in the text console would work.

PSI they were talking about didn't have anything to do with the
Apple platform so there is no reason for it to work with VO.
What you need is access to a non-apple computer and a non-apple
Jabber client to set up your jabber account and access to a MSN
gateway. I had to use sighted help because even under a windows
platform PSI isn't accessible.

Hi everyone. I want to set up the jabber gateway thing where
you can access msn and other services. I was following the
instructions on that page that Michael linked to the other day.
The instructions were to use a jabber client called psi to
connect to a google talk account. Once done you could add the
various transports from other jabber servers. So my questions
are these.
1. Has anyone gotten psi to work with voiceover? All I see is
the title for each window, along with the close minimize and
zoom buttons. Am I missing something, or does psi just not work
with VO.
2. Assuming that psi does not work, can anyone recommend a
jabber client that does work?
