The problem I've found here is that access to the sidebar in Tiger still gives "unknown" when I interact. (Oddly enough, Automator works fine in trying to find folders and show other disks with VoiceOver). I don't use an external hard drive this way, but I find that I can input the name location in the blank search search text field
If the hard drive has a name like "scr0" then if I type in: /Volumes/scr0 plus any subfolder location on that hard drive and carriage return, the name will "take" I think this is case sensitive so the Volumes needs a capital "V" and each part of the address is separated with slashes, including a slash before Volume. This works for me. I would create a folder for the location I wanted to use on my hard drive first and then type that location in after /Volumes I somehow think this is easier in Leopard (smile)?
