I've burned data cds using my double-layer drive. Except that the dvds are 
more expensive and I've had some burns where verification failed and I had 
to scrap that dvd, my data has burned ok. It has been text and audio files I 
have backed up, not any video. It's been a while since I've done it but I 
think it isn't quite 9 gigabytes.
