Yes, this is my finding. I want to check it with someone with
sight to be sure.

OK, but do you know what event you are assigning that sound to?
That is the problem I am finding. You hear the sounds, but as far as
I can tell, the actual event you can change your sound for is not
being spoken in the table. Again, unless I am missing something or
misunderstanding you.

That is what I see as well. You can move around the list, but
there is no indication you changed anything until you stumble upon it
later.

John,
I see one list, it's a list of sounds, I go through it and pick the

wish there
were.

The problem is you can end up changing sounds for events without
realizing you did so. I think there is part of that table that VO
is
not reading or I'm not interpreting it correctly. I need to have
someone with sight to be here next time I look at it.

I'd have to look again, but I believe the problem is the table
for sounds and events didn't seem to read properly. Again, it
was a
while ago when I looked and it might have changed under Leopard,
but I
think the actual event was not identified as you went down the
table
of sounds.

The sounds if you want to add your own would be put in the user/
library/sounds folder. They can be .wav files. I think you can
change some sounds in system preferences under sounds, but I have
not
been able to figure out how accessible the process is. For mail,
the
sound for new mail is changed in mail preferences under the
general
tab.

well, you can change two of them that I know of, one is the sound
the system
makes for various things like hitting the rong keystroke and the
new
mail
sound. the sounds are in a folder called sounds. I don't
remember
the
exact path, but the format is .aiff. If you create an .aiff file
and put it
in that folder, it becomes selectable

The sounds your computer makes during certain operations like the
one
you hear when new mail arrives.

Listers I wanted to add sound schemes to my system sound alerts.
Is
this a matter of making a short MP3 and placing it in a
particular
folder? If so where can I locate this folder?
