Dear Listers,

I need to work in a multilingual environment from time to time. Under Windows latform, I used to use an electronic dictionary called Ultralingua. It worked ok-ish if I used Jaws cursor to read the results of a particular search. Ultralingua has its Macintosh version which I have downloaded in order to test drive it. Unfortunately, it seems to be quite inaccessible. What happens is that although I can access the combo box where I type the word I'm looking for, the results appear in a separate box underneath to which Voiceover does not want to go. I can move the scrobar up and down using the voiceover because the scrollbar is in the same box as the word search box. But the results are annoyingly beyond my reach.

Do you know of any tricks I could try to be able to read the result windows and still be able to move the vertical scrollbar up and down?

I've e-mailed Ultralingua with a gentle but detailed complaint regarding the inaccessibility of their product. I haven't heard from them yet. I had a constructive conversation with their top man once when I complained about the problems under Windows which were then caused by their having introduced skins into their product, and he showed some positive attitude and a promise that they were going to work on accesiblity. That was however a long time ago, and I haven't heard from them since. So I wouldn't hold my breath especially that their argument for not having looked at the accessibility was as it often is the case centred around the size of their business and a lack of resources.

With best wishes

Simon
