In the alert tab of preferences, there is a pop up button for
specific events. You need to activate this and arrow down the list of
events. Then, you tab across and, for example, check the box that
says to have that even spoken. Also, you can change the alert sound
for that event as well with another pop up button.

that someone sent you an incoming message.
