Just a bit more on modal dialogue boxes. You can also do command+Letter
of the other buttons to activate them.
For example, from the desktop do
Command-shift-a to open up applications
Type "te" which should bring you to "Text Edit"
Command-o to open that application with an empty new document
Type some text in the document
command+w to close.
This will pop up a modal dialogue asking you if you want to save your
new document.
To save just hit return because the least dangerous option is usually
the default. In this case, OK. In some cases the safest path is to
cancel and so that will be the default.
To select "Don't save" press command-d
To cancel hit Escape
This behavior is generally consistent for well-behaved apps and should
save some navigating around.

Hi all,
Many of you may already know this, but for those who don't here's a
little hint that saves a little time. For me, lots of little
time-saving hints add up to a lot of time saved.
When using "force-quit", (command+option+escape), the application you
are quitting is the top one in the table-list of those you have
opened, and is already highlighted. Therefore, all one needs to do is
press return.
Now, another dialog opens wanting you to confirm your selection where
the "okay" button is already highlighted needing you to, again, only
press return. This eliminates the need to navigate to the table,
finding that what you want is already highlighted. Simply use the
"force-quit keyboard command, press return twice with a second between
each depress, and there you are, all done.
Two things.
1. The "force-quit" window is still opened and will need attention at
some point to be closed with command+w. If you get lots of windows
opened and forget about it it can sometimes be in the way.
2. Just as mentioned above about the "okay" button being highlighted,
so is the case in any dialog requiring actions. So, if you have
downloads, for instance, going into a consistent place, having no need
to change or confirm anything, simply press return and the action will
be completed, and the dialog closed. No need to navigate to the
"save" button, or the "okay" button or the "Add" button such as in the
bookmark dialog.
Navigating tip.
If you do have the need to get to the "cancel" or "okay" buttons they
are always located in the bottom right-hand corner of the dialog.
Therefore, if you use VO keys+end you will be placed on the "last
visible item" which is the highlighted button of that dialog, the
other being to its left.
Hope this is useful. They're just little things that help save time.
Have a fantastic day,
Cheryl E.
