Are you doing this using a notebook? Mines is a Kingston 4GB something
or another and says more power is needed. I have nothing plugged into
the keyboard except the thumb drive. Strange, but I can plug it into
the left side and the portable VO prefs. come up but no recognition in
the Finder. I can plug it in on the right side and it says I need
power, go figure.

I plug a thumb drive into mine all the time. It's probably dependant
on the type of drive and the power that it draws. That keyboard, and
all the devices you plug into it are sharing 1 power source. If
you've got a mouse plugged in as well, plus a thumb drive, you will
be dividing the power in half. My kingston data traveler had no
problems. Hope this helps a little bit.
