I plug a thumb drive into mine all the time. It's probably dependant on the
type of drive and the power that it draws. That keyboard, and all the
devices you plug into it are sharing 1 power source. If you've got a mouse
plugged in as well, plus a thumb drive, you will be dividing the power in
half. My kingston data traveler had no problems. Hope this helps a little
