I think she wants braille tables for VoiceOver braille display. At this point we do not have documentation from Apple as to how to write our own tables.

From what I gather the current implementation of the Mac braille tables is a modified version of NFBtrans tables. I was able to get a Swedish table working but it is very experimental. I wish Apple would have or would use the Braille tables from Louis which are XML based and much simpler to generate.

As for NFBtrans and TurboBraille (tbrl) I have ported both to the Mac and they can be found at http://w3.wmcnet.org/braille/ along with the louis translator.

Why not download nfbtrans and port it to the mac environment? It's a C program and has some tables though more might be needed for your purposes. Chuck Hallenbech has tbrl which I think also uses tables and if he's still supporting the software might be able to help you make those tables since if memory serves he knows more than one language. That's also written in C.

Dear David,

I have no good news at present but I'm finding myself in a similar position in that I need to have braille tables help me read Greek, Russian and other languages which I can fluetnly or partially speak. I'm a keen student of foreign languages and unless modern technology can help me, I have no chance of fulfilling my potential. I am at present seeking some help to have Voiceover reflect Greek letters in braille. As soon as I find out mor about braille tables construction, I will let you know. Please e-mail me privately so that I have your e-mail address. My e-mail is:

I cannot tell you how I sympathise with your position.
