When I click

Listers when I press VO shift space bar or numpad commander 5 for the  
equivalent I get the Apple menu instead of a click. Does anyone know  
what is wrong? I was trying to click on the free area for a I Tunes  
book and that's when I noticed it but it doesn't work anywhere else  
either.
