Yes, it is a very nice scanner and yes, the installer was a real pain. I did find that at least under Tiger and it was better under Leopard that the interface that popped up drove me nuts, but it was ok. The HP I got is much better in terms of the software and once they work a few issues out, they'll be excellent. Seems the initial Leopard drivers had an issue HP didn't anticipate so now they are scrambling to correct the problem.
However, it works very well even now and the results are very good.

Works fine on windows; never really got the results I wanted on Macosx with it. a pain in the neck to install as it has some kind of setup that definitely isn't accessible in vo; had to have help with the install in Windows too installing from the provided cd. I'm using it with system access on my windows xp machine--haven't tried installing it on the virtual machine since I don't have a screen for the mac mini so sighted people can't help.
It does scan very nicely.
