By default, if he plays his music with Itunes then Itunes will import it to the library so when all importation is complete he can copy the library wherever he likes and follow the steps I've already outlined. Further to this, if your friend knows where his MP3 collection is and he wants to add it to the Itunes library all in 1 go, he can just use the "import" button and select the location or locations of his MP3 collection.

Ok, well I kept an Itunes library on my external hard drive when I used to use Itunes to store music, I don't use it any longer preferring to use VLC but that's another matter for another day <smile>. If your friend wishes to use a library on an external drive then just copy the "itunes" folder to the desired location on the external drive. Start Itunes and hold down the option key, Itunes will then prompt you to choose a library, point Itunes to the location of the library on the external drive and everything should be fine.
