and I think after pressing vo enter to stop selecting, you also need to stop 
interacting with the text.

You need to press VO enter again before you press cmd c to copy the
text.
First, press VO enter, use VO and the arrow keys to highlight the
text, press VO enter again to stop highlighting and press cmd c or cmd
x to copy or cut the text to your clipboard
