unable to delete any mail

Hey guys, i am not able to delete any email from my inbox.  Anyone  
seen this problem?
Something very strange is happening.  I hit command A which selects  
all of course.  Then i hit the delete key on my macbook, and it says  
114 rows added.
They're not going away.
Any thoughts?
