unable to delete mail from inbox

Hey guys, alright, this is so odd.  I can not delete a bunch of  
messages from my inbox.  I hit command A to select all, an hit  
delete.  I do this all the time, and it says for instance 102 rowss  
added.
In other words it is not deleting the messages.  Anyone else seen this?
