Hi
In order to format your iPod for Mac, you'll need to restore it to it's factory settings, and reinitialize it. Here's how: Highlight your iPod in the sources list and navigate to the iPod settings scroll area. On the summary tab, there's a restore button. Click it, and follow the prompts. Note this will update the iPod software, as well as erasing the iPod and restoring the settings. Once restored, your iPod will reboot and iTunes should say "optimizing your iPod for Mac OS X," this is the reformatting step. After that is done, in the sources list you'll see just "iPod," as opposed to your iPod's name--the iPod has been restored, so it is no longer initialized. Simply press return twice on this entry, and you'll be set to go, your iPod's name will be back and, by default, it will be set to sync with your library. It will be Mac formatted as well, so you'll be able to update the software from now on without erasing the iPod. Note that, once it is mac formatted, windows will not be able to work with the iPod at all, as it is unable to read the Macintosh filesystem format. If you ever want it to work in windows at some point later, it will have to be reformatted for windows.
hth, drop me a line if you need any help with this

Hi again,
I have a question about my Ipod. It was orrigionally formated for my windows machine, and I went ahead and had it cync with my mac's Itunes library instead. When I go to read the information about the Ipod in the sumary tab, it says it's formated for windows, so I can't update my software. Is there a way to format it so that it will be formated as a macintosh Ipod instead of a windows Ipod? It plays and works fine with my mac's Itunes library, but I would like to reformat it to a mac Ipod if this is possible.
Thanks, Olivia
