Hi Keith,
You asked: i have just inherited an imac using OS 9. can it talk? if so how do i get it to? also i tried my tiger disks but it didn't seem to like them. any thoughts?

TK: Depending on the model of iMac will determine your usability. The iMac model you are speaking of went all the way up to 600 MHz and in a few models did have DVDRom. Most likely though, it only has a CDROM and that is why you can't do anything with the Tiger Install DVD. It can be done on a unit without the DVDROM drive by using Target mode with a PPC Mac or external DVDROM drive. A little tricky but I've done it numerous times. It's probably best done with some sighted assistance but not necessary. With respect to talking in OS 9, that is done with a package called OutSpoken which you have probably heard mention of here on the list. You'll need sighted assistance for the install of OutSpoken 9 unless you locate the actual Install CD for the software.I know that some of this was already mentioned, but I thought I'd make it clear as some of the information relayed to you in this thread was incorrect. If you need anything further, just ask.

Later...
