I don't know if this will help because mine is already setup but My scanner
is listed in the main window. There is an acquire button in the main window
also but it seems that it doesn't sho up till you select your output method.

I can't find acquire from the menu. When I press command o, it opens a
"open dialog", where I can choose to open a file.
I'll check hps website for informations about a driver for my scanner.
I'll write back if I don't find anything.
I'm just wandering why I can't find any acquire buttons in the
software. I have checked all menus, looked in the toolbar and tried
all unlabled buttons, but I can't find it. Does the program works in
different ways if you don't have any drivers installed?
I'm not sure, but I think I'm using ReadIris version 11.5. How do I
check which version I have?
Best regards
