The extra files are placed by the Mac os to assist in recordkeeping and file managment by the os. You don't se them on the Mac unless you use terminal because they hav periods as the first character of their names which indicates to the os to hide them. There is no way to prevent the Mac from managing files if you use the drive with the Mac.

When I plug it into my windows laptop, it comes up fine again, but when I open it, it has extra files that I did not put on it. These files r a spotlight file, and some files that have an underline before their names. Sometimes, their is also a .trashes folder, and an _.trashes folder.
