Because it says it in the dialog that pops up.

Nope it didn't. I put in the search word and pressed enter and it
stayed on the screen without going back to Text Edit. Furthermore I
don't just want to find a word, I want to find and replace a word. For
example if the document has 34 instances of the word apple and I want
to replace it with windows, how would this be done?
