I don't see why not. Generally people "port" their existing number to 
Vonage but they can give you a new additional number if you want. If you 
have an accessible cell phone then that makes a good occasional backup. 
One other issue is that unless you have a UPS, when the power goes out 
your phone goes out. You can set up Vonage to automatically roll over 
calls to another number if something happens and the Vonage box goes 
offline (broadband or power outage usually).
