Mac mail deleting mail

HI all.
can anyone tell me please once your email has been recieved on your mac
using mac mail, how do you tell the mac to delete mail from the server after
it has been retrieved?
What is happening here is after I recieve mail from my email account, i then
check mail on my pc and those emails are still on the server.
I want them to actually be deleted after the mac recieves mail.
