I bought my mac book when the first generation of them were
released.. If you ordered online, you could bring the specs of the
White one up to the specs of the black. I know that the original
white Mac Books could burn DVDs, because mine could and does.

Hi,
Although it is true that the original two white
MacBook stock models were less in both HD and
speed than the black model, the are the exact
same technology Further, if you selected any of
the white models, you could use the build to
order option at the online apple store to match
specs with the black model. your final cost was
100 bucks less than the black, thus the
rationalization that you are paying 100 dollars
extra just for the black case.
In the Apple retail store, you had no such luxury
of customizing your MacBook, thus I expect this is
the source of the confusion on the list.
For history, look at the MacBook reader report on macintouch.

When the black and white macbooks were first released, the black
was faster
and capable of having more ram.

I'd like to hear this too actually, because I've never read or heard
anything to indicate that there were differences in hardware quality
between the black and white mac books.

Ah, I thought the price diff on the black mb vs the white mb was
because of the larger hd in the black.
Just out of curiosity, where did you find the info on the black
mb's being 'better' than the white ones?S
thanks so much and have an awesome day!S

Think of the mac mini as the iMac without the screen. if you need
the screen then get an iMac, however it will cost you at least
1200, as where a mac mini which I just recdntly bought will cost
you 600. However, the only comes to 689.88 if you are only buying a
mac mini plus a keyboard, the kb is 50. This is assuming you have a
screen already that you have at home that you'd like to use.
Actually there are 2 moddles of the mac mini, the 600 one and the
800 one. The only difference is the hard drive space and the
processor. For that simple upgrade it is not worth the 200 extra
imho. The mac mini already comes with a vga adapter to fit any pc
styled plug. I'm sure you know that a screen alone is at least 900
and go from there. The mac mini certainly has enough power to run
what I need it to and it already comes preloaded with bootcamp, so
I'm sure it can run it just fine. Personally I'd never spoil this
mac with any windows related installs..
I don't like how the mac mini doesn't come with a keyboard or
mouse. I had to buy a kb separate which made the total price,
including tax, come to 689.88 exactly. I would say that the 599 mac
mini is definitely the way to go, unless you really want to push
your limits and pay 2400 and get a 2.4 ghz imac with 4 gigs of ram
and a 250 gig hard drive. It ultimately depends on what you'll be
using it for. I say the mac mini is a great choice. I'm saving up
to get a macbook for portability and for stability Now that I've
used my mac for pretty much everything, I wouldn't put a pc, laptop
or desktop, over a mac of any kind, any day. I don't care if it is
the most top of the line pc, macs imho are still the best and
better in quality.
btw just as an fyi, the black macbooks are actually better than the
white ones. Supposedly they are built more stable and they are just
more reliable don't ask, but they just are. The prices are even
different, even if they have the same hardware. I'm going to get a
black one, if possible.

Dear Listers,
I have share with you before how much I've enjoyed my Macbook. I
am still having to use Jaws and windows xp to an extent in order
to be able to use the languages I need to study or work in.
My other Windows desktop computer has just died on me. Whilst I
have lost some latest material, I am now confronted with a
possibility of getting another computer as backup and a kind of
server at home, and of course it will have to a Mac.
Listers, I wasn't expecting to have to find money at this stage to
buy another Mac although I was planing to do this next year. I
therefore thought I'd ask your opinion regarding what Mac mini has
to offer. My old display is a LCD flat screen, still very good, I
loathe throwing it away. I will however want to continue running
Jaws on Windows using bootcamp or Fusion so I need enough power to
do so. My primary operating system though is certainly going to be
Mac os.
What are your thoughts on the power of Mac mini, its ability to
run both windows and Mac and its capacity to cope with partitions?
What are the drawbacks and such like?
Has Mac mini got a CD/DVD driver? I don't wish to clutter the list
so maybe somebody would be happy to discuss these options outside
the list.
Maybe I should et an Imac or another Macbook. I would welcome your
views. Since I have decided to buy another Mac, I want to make
sure it is going to be powerful enough for a few years to come.
Thanks in advance.
Simon
