Are you using a Dot Mac account? I'm asking because the service is
flaky right now and also because your ISP may not likely allow a 10 MB
file through the pipes. Dot Mac should have sent it with no problem if
that's what you are using. Another thought with Apple mail and large
files being sent is it waits a couple of minutes as that file is being
transfered.

Just a while ago, I attempted to email an encrypted file to a
friend. After I attached the file and unchecked Windows friendly
file attachments and pressed send, nothing at all happened. In other
words, the mail program just hung. The size of the Encrypted file
was 10MB.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this situation?
For example, does Apple deliberately not allow the emailing of
