Since you sent this to the list I'm assuming anyone can jump in and answer your questions <smile>

Open Office is an open source software suite of applications which works much like Microsoft Office. The code is contributed by individuals and companies who care and the results are pretty much given away for free.

You can check the archives for this list for info on backups as there was a thread about this very topic a few weeks ago. Normally for 10.5 users I'd say to just use time machine, but I'm not sure that will backup a separate bootcamp partition.

Hope this helps.

Dear John,

Thank you for letting me know of the open office beta version. I'm very ignorant, John, but could you explain briefly to me what open office is? I have been waiting for an accessible equivalent of Ms Office for some time as use these applications routinely.

On a different note, John, what do you use to back up your date? Waht's the best way? I run Mac os 10.54 and windows under bootcamp? Is there a way of backing the two systems on one external hard drive?

How is life for you over there, John? I live in Wales, Great Britain, and here we are still waiting for the summer. Although it is officially summer, the weather has been very much like a green house effect: cloudy, humid, clammy, horribly depressing.

With best wishes

Simon

For those who are interested, there appears to be a new beta of the Open Office application. I have not played with it much, but there seems to be greater improvements to accessibility.
