ring tones

You know I was sitting here and mucking about with iTunes and got  
curious about the ring tones feature. I had forgotten you could only  
do this with songs purchased from the iTunes store and I have no doubt  
for a cost of course. So, is it possible to just make your own ring  
tones? I imagine there is some things you have to do to get the mp3  
file to a particular size and the like. I was wondering if a program  
such as Fusion would help in this process.
Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
