What are Apple's package management tools for the mac? The iTunes
application is non-functional now and if this were debian I'd have done an
aptitude remove --purge iTunes long ago. For the uninitiated what
aptitude remove --purge iTunes would do is to remove iTunes and everything
iTunes uses on the system and purge all configuration files for all of
those applications. Libraries/frameworks as they're called in the windows
world would also be removed. Then with aptitude I could do aptitude
install iTunes -r and reinstall iTunes and all of its dependencies
cleanly. Putting packages is not a good colution for package management
problems that arise on the mac. So I'm hoping some powerful package
management tools are available even if I have to use the terminal to run
them for this and other jobs.
