Ok, since file sharing works well on the Icon, I still have something set up incorrectly.

When I browse for the network folder with the Icon, I see "Dave Hunt's public folder" as an option. When I hit "connect", I see the fields for location, username, and password. I leave the text in "location" alone. In "username", I put the username I use to log into this Mac. I use the password associated with that username. When hitting "Ok" on the Icon, The file explorer is locked until I eventually get a login error.

On the Mac side, I've given myself read/write permissions on the shared folder. File Sharing is the only service turned on. SMB is the only protocol turned on. What else should I be looking at?

Just for completeness, I tried finding my Icon from the Mac side. On my desktop, there is an unknown object with text "shared folder"; I assume that refers to the icon. I don't know how to interact with this. If I do "vo+shft+down", I end up interacting with the text "shared folder", not the object.

Thanks for your help,

Dave Hunt

Thanks, all, for your comments. It appears that I have to use the
network file share option. I'll figure how to do that.
