Hi.
Just a couple of tips from me too, since I'm running leopard on an
ibook. Admittedly, I've put nearly the highest amount of ram I can,
1.5 gb but appart from that it's stock standard.
First tip, try to run in performance mode as much as you can. As has
already been said, you might not want to use alix as your main voice.
I don't mind, since with the amount of RAM I have it's usually ok, but
your milage may vary.
If you use the speech service to read text you might want to set
*that* to alix and your primary screen reader to something else.
Secondly, you might try running mostly with cursor tracking off.
Again, it's a matter of opinion, but I've found moving my cursors to
where I want them works better on slower setups.
the final thing I'll say in this post is, watch out for anything that
uses a lot of disk activity. Spotlight updates and the like. If your
hard drive's working pretty hard, chances are you *might* not be able
to get any speech until it settles down. Go get a cup of coffee or
something and let it do its thing, <grin>.
There are others. I'm probably going to set up my own blog in the next
few weeks, and that's one of the first posts on my list, so I'll post
an announcement when I've posted it.
