• To expand a group in the table in Skype, which shows your contacts,
simply press right arrow on it.
• to show particular groups in that table, go to 'manage contact
groups' in the contacts menu, and check the groups you'd like to have
shown. YOu'll want to check in 'preset groups' to find the options
for the online group and such.

If you arrange your contact list by status, and also show groups,
you can tell who is online or not,in addition to a few other forms
of status.
