Neat! Just tried it and I was able to select the firewire drive on my laptop as a backup destination from another mac. So now I can just put the firewire on the other machine all the time to backup everything to it.

Hi,

I believe one of the Leopard upgrades enabled Wireless Time Machine to any drive on the network.
Thanks for listening,

In theory it might have worked but it was probably too buggy. Burners need to have a constant feed of data to write or you end up with a coaster. Even 1x DVD writing requires no less than 1.35MB per second. With real world wireless hovering at 2MB per second this is just asking for problems. Even if it did work, would want to wait 60 minutes to write a single-layer (4.7GB) disk? So it might have been somewhat possible but they probably didn't want to put in the engineering work for a marginal use case.

Subject: a question for you all

hey;
ok so here's our situation. Me and sabrina both ordered new mac's, however neither of us upgraded them to dvd burners. Now is there any place out there, a place to order either wireless dvd burners or networkable dvd burners? Also what about wireless or networkable hard disks? I bet we will fill up our 120gb hd's quite quickly
thanks
please help if you can
Mike
